Managing Director & Group Head
John, a member of Rubicon Infrastructure Advisors’ (“Rubicon”) senior leadership team, heads the firm’s UK investment banking business and is based in London. His focus with the firm ranges from oversight of Rubicon’s global debt advisory activities and strategy to independent debt and M&A advice to corporate, infrastructure and energy clients.
John has over 25 years of experience in the transportation, power, utilities and energy sectors, having advised and arranged over $100 billion in financings for a wide range of corporate, private equity, government and infrastructure clients. Prior to joining Rubicon, he spent over 8 years at Scotiabank, based in London and previously in Toronto, where he was Global Head of Infrastructure, Power and Utilities. John was instrumental in launching and developing the bank’s global infrastructure and power capabilities, establishing and building teams in the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and Australia. In London, John, as CEO, had additional responsibility for the full range of Scotiabank’s European lending, investment banking and capital markets activities. He pioneered the bank’s successful infrastructure ‘carve out’ initiative, advising and arranging financing for many clients on optimizing and unlocking asset values through monetizing, divesting or ring-fencing strategic assets and portfolio investments. John also established and led the bank’s London based institutional loan underwriting and advisory platform delivering and structuring several groundbreaking debt transactions in the transportation and energy sectors. Prior to joining Scotiabank, he was global head of infrastructure and asset financing at a major German bank.
John has extensive experience with many of the largest international corporate and financial infrastructure investors including Ferrovial, Grupo ACS, Vinci, Bombardier, Alstom, EllisDon, Fortis, Repsol, SNC Lavalin, CK Infrastructure, SL Capital, InfraVia, Canadian Pension Plan, OTTP, OMERS, GIC, GIP, Partners Group, First State Investments, Fengate and Wren House amongst others.
John has a Master’s Degree in Business and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from University College Dublin, Ireland. In 2015, John completed the Executive Management Program at Duke University in the United States.
